Shuang Zou

DIRECTOR

Shuang Zou’s artistic practice spans theater, music theater, and opera. Her notable works include the plays Happy Days and Blithe Spirit, music theatre productions Songs of Nature and Die Winterreise, and operas Orfeo, The Rake’s Progress, Rigoletto, and The Merry Widow. She wrote the script for the musical The Wonderful Adventures of Nils.
A graduate of London Film School and London School of Economics, Zou has served as Artistic Director of Beijing Music Festival since 2018, where she launched the “New Wave” series featuring immersive opera and music theater productions that foster international collaborations.
Zou was nominated for the “Newcomer” award by The International Opera Awards in the UK. Early in her career, she worked as assistant director at the Royal Albert Hall, Garsington Opera, Northern Irish Opera, and Lithuanian National Opera, gaining experience across Baroque to contemporary opera.
As an emerging Chinese director, Zou brings an international perspective and innovative approach to her work, creating experimental productions that serve as cultural bridges.
