Gwenyth Annear

SOPRANO

Australian soprano Gwenyth Annear studied opera under Ellis Keeler at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

She enjoyed a successful career in the UK as an opera singer and recitalist, appearing at Glyndebourne, Sadlers Wells at the Coliseum, The Welsh National and the National Opera, Brussels, in such roles as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Electra (Idomeneo), Countess (The Marriage of Figaro) , Gilda (Rigoletto) and Giuone (La Calisto).

She recorded Mahler’s Symphony No.8 in E flat major “Symphony of a Thousand” with the London Symphony Orchestra and Leonard Bernstein in 1966 and Delibes’ Lakme with Sutherland, Bacquier, Berbier, Vanzo and Bonynge for DECCA in 1967.

She recorded opera for B.B.C. Radio and appeared regularly on the London concert platform before returning to Australia in 1975 and joining The State Opera.

Gwenyth has taught voice in Adelaide and abroad since the 1970s.
