
Anna Dowsley
MEZZO-SOPRANOHelpmann nominated mezzo soprano Anna Dowsley performs as a principal artist with Opera Australia and as a guest artist with many leading orchestras and festivals around Australia. Her operatic roles include Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Rosina (The Barber of Seville), Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Siebel (Faust), Flora Bervoix (La traviata), Tebaldo (Don Carlos) and Zaida (Il turco in Italia).
In 2017, Anna made her United Kingdom debut performing the role of Meg Page alongside Sir Bryn Terfel as Falstaff (Royal Liverpool Philharmonic), and sang Lucretia in Sydney Chamber Opera’s production of Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia.
Concert engagements include Beethoven Mass in C (Sydney Symphony Orchestra), Debussy Pelléas et Mélisande (SSO), Verdi Requiem (Melbourne Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), Beethoven Symphony No. 9 (Adelaide Symphony Orchestra), Mozart Requiem (Canberra Choral Society), Bach Magnificat (Sydney Philharmonia Choirs), Mozart Great Mass in C minor (SPC).
Most recently with Opera Australia, Anna made a role debut in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena (Mark Smeaton) and performed alongside Jonas Kaufmann in a concert version of Andrea Chénier. Also in 2019, Anna was a guest soloist with Van Diemen’s Band as part of the Tasmanian “Ten Days on the Island Festival”, made her debut with Pinchgut Opera in their Bach and Telemann concert series and will compete as a finalist in the International Singing Competition in Toulouse.
