James Laing

James Laing has sung for companies including The Royal Opera, London, Early Opera Company, English National Opera, Garsington Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Grange Park Opera, The Grange Festival, Scottish Opera and Welsh National Opera.

International engagements include Landestheater Linz, Den Jyske Opera, Theater Aachen, Göttingen Festival, Opéra de Nice, Dresden Semperoper, Icelandic Opera and Zurich Opera. Concert engagements include performances with Academy of Ancient Music, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Dunedin Consort, The English Concert, the Hallé, Irish Chamber Orchestra, National Orchestra of Spain, Netherlands Bach Society, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Royal Northern Sinfonia.

North American engagements include performances with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Arion Baroque of Montréal and Tafelmusik in Toronto. His recordings include JS Bach’s Magnificat on Atma CD; The Adventures of Pinocchio on Opus Arte DVD/Blu-Ray; and Tobias and the Angel on Chandos.

His current engagements include Trinculo in The Tempest for his debut at Wiener Staatsoper; Peter in Brothers at Copenhagen Opera Festival; Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Korea National Opera, Opera North and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis; and creating Cake/Berghahn in Jonathan Dove’s Itch for Opera Holland Park.

James Laing is delighted to making his debut with State Opera South Australia as The Refugee in Flight. This is one of his favourite roles, one which he has sung for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opera Holland Park and Scottish Opera.
