Meran Bow

CONTRALTO

Meran Bow is a South Australian contralto. Meran completed a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Drama, before beginning private vocal studies, firstly with Carol Kohler and then Florin Radulescu.

Meran joined the State Opera South Australia chorus in 1992 and was a member of the Young Artist Program in 1997. Principal roles with the company include Third Lady (The Magic Flute), Babet (La Chanson de Fortunio), Pitti-Sing (The Mikado), The Mother (Mavra), The Woman (Riders to the Sea). She has covered the roles of Grimgerde (Die Walkure), Marcellina (The Marriage of Figaro), Dorabella (Cosi Fan Tutte), Mrs Grose (Turn of the Screw) among others.

In 2015 she made her debut with Co Opera singing Azucena in Il Trovatore. Later, she toured regional Australia, performing the roles of Madame Larina and Filippevna in Eugene Onegin. Meran also sang the role of Zita (Gianni Schicchi) in 2022 for Co Opera and La Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica) for Mopoke Productions. For the G & S Society, she has appeared as Kate (The Pirates of Penzance), Katisha (The Mikado), Fairy Queen (Iolanthe) and Lady Blanche (Princess Ida). Meran has extensive concert credits having sung as alto soloist for the Norwood Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide University Choral Society, Adelaide Youth Orchestra, The Accompanist’s Guild, Harmony Choir and The Adelaide Hills Chamber players.
