There once was a barber who had it all; a happy life, a beautiful wife – all ended by a savage act of betrayal. Meet Sweeney Todd, “the demon barber of Fleet Street”. Born out of the ashes of tragedy and set on revenge, he makes for a dapper and dangerous man to know. Together with the beguiling and batty Mrs Lovett, a twisted plan is hatched – genius and ghoulish in equal measure. But the best pies in London town may not last for long, as Sweeney’s thirst for vengeance leads them perilously close to the razor’s edge.

Considered one of the most powerful, dramatic and theatrical horror tales ever set to music, this work will leave hearts racing and spines tingling long after the curtain has fallen.

What do The Fifth Element, Dame Joan Sutherland and Sir Walter Scott have in common? 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚 𝐝𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐫, of course.

💔 Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti was inspired by Scott’s novel 'The Bride of Lammermoor' to create an opera tragedy set in the Scottish Highlands and featuring two ill-fated lovers.
⭐ Lucia was the role that made Australian-born soprano Joan Sutherland an international star: she got to perform it 221 times throughout her career (may we add, possibly bringing the house down every single time), on the most prestigious stages including the Paris Opéra, La Scala and the Met.
👽 In the 1997 sci-fi movie The Fifth Element, alien Diva Plavalaguna enraptures her audience by singing a stirring aria from the opera, the moment in which fragile Lucia descends into madness and enacts her revenge.

⭐ HAPPY 189TH BIRTHDAY, LUCIA! ⭐
Lucia di Lammermoor premiered at the San Carlo theatre in Naples on the 26th of September 1835 and it was a huge success. So big, in fact, that Gaetano Donizetti, who never used to comment on his own successes, wrote a letter to a friend: "Allow me to go beyond the usual modesty, but the audience liked my new opera… They really liked it!"

The first 3 times I heard Butterfly, I spent the whole of Act 2 in tears. Rosmund Illing always gave heart rending performances ❤️

Basically was me at Madam Butterfly like 20years ago with Kristi Harms in the lead, Adam Goodburn in a featured role and the water
