
Charlotte Kelso
SOPRANOAustralian soprano Charlotte Kelso’s recent performances include Donna Anna in Don Giovanni for her Netherlands debut and in Wales, as well as Musetta in La bohème in Wales. In 2025, she returns to her home company State Opera South Australia as Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette.
Charlotte performed the soprano solos in Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass and Poulenc’s Gloria at Manchester Cathedral with St George’s Singers and the Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra. She also made her San Francisco concert debut in LIEDER ALIVE’s 2024/25 series, appearing in recital with Australian pianist Peter Grünberg. Following a grant from the Wagner Society of Washington D.C., she was featured in their 25th Anniversary Gala and performed in recital for Vocal Vistas: An Evening of Italian and Wagnerian Arias.
Her previous concert appearances include the Australian premiere of Arnesen’s Magnificat at the Australian Intervarsity Choral Festival; Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream Suite with the State Theatre Company and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra; and the world premiere of Jankowski’s The Voices of Silent Things alongside Bach’s Actus Tragicus at the Coriole Music Festival.
Charlotte holds a Master of Performance from the Royal College of Music London and was selected to join the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices in Nevada in 2022 and 2023.
Earlier in her career as a young mezzo-soprano, Charlotte was an Emerging Artist with State Opera South Australia, where she performed roles including Peep-Bo in The Mikado, Clarrie in Wesley-Smith’s Boojum! and the title role in Edwards’ Christina’s World, earning a 2019 Adelaide Critics Circle nomination for Emerging Artist of the Year. She also appeared regularly with the Adelaide Festival in productions such as Handel’s Saul and Dean’s Hamlet with Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Mazzoli’s Breaking the Waves with Scottish Opera and Romeo Castellucci’s staged production of Mozart’s Requiem with Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
