★★★★ THIS IS, AT HEART, AN INTENSE, PROFOUND WORK ABOUT THE CYCLE OF NATURE IN WHICH CREATURES FROM THE FOREST PLAY JUST A PART IN THE CONTINUUM OF BIRTH, AGEING AND DEATH THAT AFFECTS US ALL.

THE AGE

The forest comes alive! An unforgettable theatrical experience, Cunning Little Vixen is a musical celebration of nature and the cycle of life. Set in an idyllic forest, Janacek’s opera follows a Vixen’s journey from youth to adulthood, where, with the help of her forest friends and a handsome Fox, Vixen faces growing up and the excitement and uncertainty that a changing world brings.

A magical allegory about life cycles, global citizenship and self-discovery, Janáček’s opera is considered one of the great modern works, though rarely performed. Accompanied by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and complete with a chorus of chooks and children, Cunning Little Vixen is a joyous, life-affirming treat for all lovers of music and theatre.

Nominated for four Helpmann Awards (including Best Opera and Best Director), Stuart Maunder’s evocative production, featuring Sets by Richard Roberts, Costumes by Roger Kirk and Lighting by Trudy Dalgleish, was premiered by Victorian Opera in 2017 and presented by Western Australian Opera in 2018. The Adelaide season stars South Australian soprano Desiree Frahn as the Vixen and sees the return of award-winning soprano Antoinette Halloran to the role of Fox.
