Chad Kelly

For several seasons Chad was on the music staff at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, working with the world’s greatest conductors and singers. Previously he held posts at English National Opera and Royal Academy Opera, as the Lucille Graham Fellow.

As a specialist in Baroque repertoire and historically-informed style, Chad has directed performances at the Göttingen Handel Festival, the London Handel Festival, Vienna’s ResonanzenFestival, Brecon Baroque Festival, and at London’s Globe Theatre, the Duke of York’s Theatre, and Milton Court Theatre.

Equally adept in the world of contemporary music, recent highlights include working on the world-premiere of Thomas Adés’ opera ‘The Exterminating Angel’ at the Salzburg Festival, and the world-premiere of Hans Abrahamsen’s ‘The Snow Queen’ at the National Theater, Munich. Chad has enjoyed frequent collaborations with the Royal Opera House, developing new repertoire.

Chad enjoys strong links with the opera department of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and with the Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper, where he leads performances and masterclasses in both Baroque and contemporary repertoire. In addition, Chad was Lector in Music at Trinity College, Cambridge, and in 2017 was elected as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in recognition of his significant contribution to the music profession. He is aLicentiate of the Royal Schools of Music and a Fellow of the Royal College of organists.
