It’s been a fantastic year at State Opera: from the outdoor spectacular of Bohème on the Beach, to the revival of epic Australian opera Voss, a dazzling Traviata and a national tour. Thank you for sharing these wonderful experiences with us, we hope you enjoyed them as much as we did!

After all this excitement, our team will be taking a longer Christmas break to recharge and get ready for an even more fabulous 2023.

The State Opera office will be closed from Monday 19 December and reopen on Monday 23 January. For any urgent enquiries during this time, our social media channels and our ticketing email will be monitored.

If you’re looking for some last minute gifts, have a look at our suggestions below: and because we understand that sometimes performance times and personal commitments don’t work out, we are happy to accommodate exchange tickets to another performance of the same event, for all tickets purchased between 15-31 December.

You can never go wrong with the classics

🏴‍☠️ YO-HO-HO… Pirates of Penzance is one of the most popular operettas ever written, that both old salts and scallywags will equally enjoy.

Family tickets (2 adults + 2 kids 3-17yo) start at $186 for an evening of adventure and fun!

H.M.S. Pinafore is Titanic, but shorter. It’s Love Boat, but funnier. it’s Romeo and Juliet, but with a surprise twist (and a charming chorus of sailors, for those who like uniforms).

Girls night, sorted.

Exclusive treats

🫖 If you’ve met him in the theatre foyer during one of our performances, you know our Artistic Director Stuart Maunder can be hilariously witty.  Pair Mad Songs of Englishmen, his very own G&S cabaret extravaganza, with an indulgent high tea and you’ll get the perfect Mother’s Day treat.

🍽️ When G&S FEST becomes a G&S FEAST: a once-in-a-lifetime chance to share a mouth-watering 3-course meal with some living legends of Australian opera and theatre. The Lads&Lasses Long Lunch is the perfect present for the keen opera-goer in your life.

$50 and under

🪄 A rare opportunity to hear The Sorcerer, a lesser-known piece of the G&S canon, featuring over 150 performers from all over Australia: an engagement party slips into chaos when the groom-to-be spikes the tea with a powerful love potion… and the sorcerer has to fix it before wedding bells ring for the wrong lovers.

❓ Whether there’s a G&S expert in your team or not, this Quiz Night will be a fun one: this stocking stuffer that says let’s have a laugh (and a drink) and spend some quality time together.

🎞️ The newly redeveloped Piccadilly cinema in North Adelaide is the perfect setting to unveil Gilbert and Sullivan and discover their partnership behind the scenes and beyond the stage, through two exciting movie matinees.
