LOVE BURNS AND THE TELL-TALE HEART

Presented by STATE OPERA SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Two more Lost Operas of Oz have now been found in 2021. State Opera is proud to present Australian chamber operas Love Burns and The Tell-Tale Heart.

“Love Burns and Tell-tale Heart speak with an Australian voice; two wildly different operas but both quirky, dark, thrilling tales brought to life with exciting Australian casts in surprising locales. This is opera ripped out of the theatre and hurled into the Adelaide night. These are stories worth telling”
Stuart Maunder – Artistic Director

Love Burns (3-6 June) is the story of The Honeymoon Killers, who seduce rich widows, take away their fortunes and then their lives. Written by Graeme Koehne with a libretto by Louis Nowra. 3 performances only, at Plant 4 Bowden.

The Tell-Tale Heart (1-4 July) is based on Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale of gothic fiction – of murder and madness – presented as a tour de force one man opera at Z Ward, Glenside. Starring tenor James Egglestone.

Rounding out the triptych of lost operas for 2021 is the much-anticipated VOSS, a co-production with Victorian Opera, which will be gracing the stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre for one night only.
