Mascagni & Leoncavallo

Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci

Festival Theatre

18 Apr - 22 Apr 2017

“Versmio” – meaning true, and in the context of the Arts, a truthful and realistic portrayal of events and people. These two operas are certainly that. Both based on true incidents, they embrace the passions, morals, and characters of Southern Italy and Sicily, where these events took place. But in spite of their local flavor, the passions exposed in these two stories are universal and we are drawn into the events we see unfolding before us by the knowledge that these things also can come near to us.

REVIEWS

Performing the role of both Turiddu in Cavalleria and Canio in Pagliacci, Rosario La Spina made the night his own. Hearing his beautifully fluid tenor voice flowing full of resonance was the highlight of the evening.
